The way to play

task Description: on monday we were doing a task about the way to play. when room 6 won the competition to design the school’s new playground, they couldn’t wait to get started. Ms Mapusua took the class outside to the old  playground and asked them to go and stand in their favourite spots. then she told them to think about what they liked most about that particular place. roland walked straight to the fort. he liked to sit under it when it rained and watch the water splashing off the matting. he enjoyed digging his hands into the wet, sweet-smelling bark, down to  the warm, dry layers underneath. crystal ran to the monkey bars. she loved swinging from them and having spinning competitions with  her friends. sometimes she sat at the very top, in the sunshine, pretending to be a monkey in the treetops. tama climbed the old cargo net. he and his friends like playing there at lunchtime. they had a game where you had to climb to the top without being hit by a tennis ball. mathusha skipped to the old wooden stage and struck a pose. she and her two best friends always went there to dance. moves that would one day make them famous. sam sat beside a pile of old grass clippings near the flying fox. he liked to search for worms and beetles. he kept careful sketches of them all in the back of his maths book. it was very fun when we were doing the task on our Chromebook. please leave a comment on my blog.

Timber!

task Description: today I was finishing off a reading task. this task was in 1999. the book was called timber. it’s like when tree falls down they say timber!, without trees the world as we know it wouldn’t exist. our forests make oxygen, and they absorb greenhouse gases. trees are home to trees help to stop erosion, and they give us shelter and shade. the list could go on. in New zealand, trees are one of the most important resources, but for a different reason: money. each year, millions of dollars are made from selling our timber overseas- and it’s been this way for many decades. even the first European traders understood that the native forests, which had originally stretched from one end of the country to the other, could be turned into cash. they started by felling kaauri as masts for sailing ships. iwi also took part in this trade. when the first people arrived in new Zealand, more that 80 percent of the land was covered in trees. some of these trees were felled to build a Waka and a whare. however, plenty were left, and the forests of Tane continued to thrive. bark, leaves, flowers, and sap taken to make rongoa or medicine were also gathered sustainably. although early maori were gardeners, they were also hunters. sometimes, they used fire to catch birds, and these fires sometimes spread out of control and burnt huge areas. when pakeha settlers arrived, they felled and burnt the forests on a larger scale. land was burnt for towns and roads- and, most importantly, land was needed for farms.

Bezos Measurement

task Description: today we were doing this math task. we used mm, cm, kg, g, m, ml, l. it was so hard but some of slides was easy. we had to listen to this song about all of the measurement that we have. it was a very cool song,  there was some question that we had to answer from the video.
